Bridges

Overview

Stahly Engineering has completed design and construction administration on over 50 bridges in the last 10 years. Our bridge team has become a valuable asset to many Montana County road and bridge departments, assisting with preparation of bridge inventories, inspection of bridges, management of emergency bridge replacement, funding, design, and construction inspection.

Funding bridge infrastructure through FEMA during an emergency or the Treasure State Endowment Program (TSEP) as part of a program of routine maintenance and replacement requires the assistance of skilled and knowledgeable engineers. Stahly Engineering has personnel who can assess conditions, provide accurate estimates of repair or replacement cost, analyze alternatives, and design and manage the final solution to keep local bridges safe and usable for the travelling public.

Kathy Thompson, P.E. and Adam Hagel, P.E.  provide bridge inventories and evaluations used to complete Preliminary Engineering Reports (PER) required for funding applications. Our Bridge Department is well versed in providing PERs for TSEP and, in conjunction with our on staff grant writer, have been highly successful in securing funding for a number of Montana County bridge projects.

In 2011/2012 Stahly Engineering designed 15 bridges due to significant flooding in Fergus and Judith Basin Counties, all of which were funded by FEMA. As a result of work done on those projects in Fergus County, Stahly Engineering was awarded the ACEC Award of Excellence for the Design and Bidding Practices for Replacement of Multiple Bridges Simultaneously. Stahly utilized design and bidding processes that allowed multiple bridges to be replaced quickly, efficiently and cost effectively following the flood event of 2011. Exploration of numerous bridge types, cost saving bid alternative practices, and packaging multiple projects for bid promoted quick recovery of the County transportation system.
